Information on North Walsham Twinning!

Friesenried is one of a collection of three or four villages in Bavaria, Southern Germany/Austrian Alps.   It is located near the town of Kaufbeuren and is approximately 60 miles from Munich.   The landscape is of rolling pastures interspersed with woodland with the Alps as a wonderful backdrop.

The link between North Walsham and Friesenried was established in 1981.  Various social and other events are arranged during the year leading up to the highlight of a visit to or from Germany.   All members are invited to take part and play an active role in keeping the Association alive and well.  The Town Clerk is the hon.secretary/treasurer contactable at the Council Offices or by telephone 01692 404114 during the morning period.

Visits to Friesenried, once by coach and taking 2 days each way, are now undertaken by plane reducing travel to a few hours.  We are guests of local residents for five days in Friesenried and their association arranges various entertainments and excursions.  On return visits to North Walsham members reciprocate with accommodation where possible, and join in all aspects of the visit, including social events and visits to local and not so local places of interest.

The aim of the Association being to further cement the excellent relationship already established.

We hope that many more people from North Walsham and the local area (radius 7 miles) will want to learn about Friesenried and its people and join in the shared activities.    Membership currently stands at £10 per family and £5 per individual.
