Poppy Knitting Morning
February 21 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Please come and join us as we start on the next knitting project that needs YOU.
We are aiming to knit hundreds, if not thousands, of red poppies in order to have a waterfall of poppies for Remembrance Sunday 2018.
The instructions will be simple. (If the curate can knit one…so can you!)
Come and join us as we meet every other Wednesday, starting this month. 21st February, 10am-12 noon at the back of St Nicholas’ Church.
Great company guaranteed as well as refreshments… which may well include cake!
Please feel free to use any poppy pattern you can find – variety is good – but this one is a good place to start.
BODY OF POPPY
Using Red wool Cast on 60 st
Row 11 K2 tog across the row.
Row 12 Sl 1 K2 tog psso across the row
Break off yarn with long tail and thread back through remaining stitches and pull tight. Join short edges together.
CENTRE OF POPPY
Using Black wool Cast on 8 stitches and knit a square (approx 8-10 rows)
of stocking stitch. Cut yarn leaving a tail and thread through live stitches as previously. The purl side is the right side. Run a line of running stitch around the outside of the knitted square and ease enough to pull the edges of the square into a round and tuck under.
Stitch the centre tucked side down to body of poppy and overstitch with black yarn. Leave a length of yarn to help attach it to the netting later.
